Basement WaterProofing

There are three main things to keep in mind when it comes to basement waterproofing.

  1. The grade of the landscape
  2. Exterior waterproofing
  3. Interior waterproofing / repairs

Landscape Grade and Basement Waterproofing

Perhaps the best thing you can do for a basement is drain water away from it.

This means properly installing gutters, cleaning the gutters, making sure the gutters and all drainage pipes drain far enough away from the house, and ensuring that the land slopes away from the home.

These will keep water moving away from the basement foundation and not towards it.

These things seem simple but they are the primary cause of most water proofing issues.

Exterior waterproofing

The are several products that exist today that can be applied to the outside of a foundation. These products provide an additional layer of protection between the exterior of your house and your foundation.

They will help mitigate any water issues.

These products can be applied to existing foundations, but the process is intensive and expensive as you have to dig out the soil around the foundation.

It can be a option to improve the waterproofing of a foundation but can get expensive.

Interior waterproofing

Finally, you can deal with leaks and cracks on the inside of your foundation as they come up. These solutions range in effectiveness and expense. Depending on the issue, you really can have a wide range of things that need to be done to fix it.
